These are speakers that fade into the background, letting the music take centre stage. The overall presentation is controlled and even-handed in the manner of Elac’s Award-winning Debut 2.0 series of passive speakers. Use the digital inputs and it's a clear, balanced and insightful performer, and the understated way this system goes about its job is eminently likeable. Sonically, the Elac speakers provide a good level of detail, and they organise that information into a cohesive and musical whole. Beach ocean waves clipart7/2/2023 ![]() ![]() One guy even wanted a photo with him one recent night. Some follow his social media to see when he posts live videos and rush down to see it first hand. There’s been more people Coyne has met on his night adventures. They hit it off and now Gravley, who lives in Newport Beach, does “recon” checks on whether the ocean has a rusty hue during the day – a red tide can indicate the ocean might be glowing at night. Joining him on recent outings is fellow photographer Josh Gravley, who he met last year while out shooting bio, as he calls it for short. Trying new things out, new angles, shots and video is super fun.” I’ve been able to catch it a lot over the last year and a half. “The time goes fast, you forget you’re there for hours on end. “When you’re staring at glowing blue water, it never gets old,” Coyne said. That’s not counting the hundreds of hours he put in last year.Īnd if the bioluminescence event is strong, he’ll stay even longer, finding new angles to shoot video and images. He’s estimated he’s gone out at least 50 times so far this year, each jaunt taking four-to-five hours, making for at least 200 hours he’s spent chasing the glow. So when he heard it was showing up again earlier this year, Coyne had to again document it’s appearance. He swam in it, put it in bottles to shake it around, marveling at it with a curious wonder. Through that strong bioluminescent phytoplankton bloom, which lasted nearly two months, Coyne was able to capture amazing moments, everything from neon blue dolphins frolicking alongside the Newport Coastal Adventure boat, to countless videos showing his toes kicking up sand that lit up like it had been zapped with magic. Then in 2020, just as the coronavirus pandemic hit and the world needed something to marvel at, Coyne and two other photographers, Mark Girardeau and Royce Hutain, captured images and video of bioluminescence happening off Newport Beach’s coast that went viral. He first got a glimpse of a bioluminescence bloom in 2018 and again in 2019 in Malibu, not strong events but enough to make him curious about the mysterious phenomenon. Like the phytoplankton blooms that cause the ocean to glow, Coyne’s drive to photograph bioluminescence events has grown. But it all can depend on condition and weather.” “Since we’ve been checking every other week, we can make that assumption now. The phytoplankton actually use the glowing light as a defense mechanism when they feel they feel a lot of water movement or when a nearby predator takes hold of them as prey, explained Michael Latz, a researcher with Scripps Institution of Oceanography in California.“We’ve come to the conclusion, it happens way more often than we realize,” he said. As the water rolls and crashes, an electric blue, glowing color lights up the dark ocean at night-and researchers say it’s due to an increase of tiny microorganisms that belong to the plankton family.īy day, the high amounts of organisms along the coastline, spanning from Baja California to Los Angeles, spurs a red tide, which displays a completely different scene by emitting a dark reddish or brown color.īy night, researchers with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego say the “sea sparkle” comes about from the tiny, single-celled organisms known as dinoflagellates, which have a tendency to produce a bioluminescent glow. The coast of Southern California is being lit up by a spectacular display of bioluminescent waves. ![]() By day, the high amounts of organisms along the coastline, spanning from Baja California to Los Angeles, can also spur a red tide.Researchers say it’s due to an increase of tiny microorganisms that belong to the plankton family. The coast of Southern California is being lit up by a spectacular display of bioluminescent waves. ![]() 2019 chevrolet volt premier review7/2/2023 ![]() So, I took the new Volt out for a day of simple errands around town, but I drove like I was in a huge hurry the entire time. When the Volt is driven reasonably, like most drivers will drive it, it posts awesome efficiency figures, but I wondered what might happen if I drove the Volt in a way that should, in theory, yield terrible range numbers. So, when the 2016 Chevrolet Volt is driven on a normal daily drive route, running with traffic at speeds around the posted limits, it is possible to meet and exceed the EPA range expectations. I averaged 111 MPGe during this trip.īased on these results, I believe that driving this route or a similar route each day with the 2016 Chevy Volt could easily yield 60 miles of all-electric driving…especially if you put some effort into getting better range. Even if I had “only” gotten 12 more miles out of the system, I would have exceeded the expected EPA range by 4+ miles with roughly 57 miles driven on the battery. In fact, when I returned home, even though I had driven 45.7 miles with 44 miles of EV range when I left the house, I still had 12 miles of range left on the battery system. Traffic on all roads was moderate, but it was moving, so there was very little stop-and-go and when I returned home, I had gone the expected 45.7 miles and I hadn’t used any gasoline in the process. ![]() I didn’t drive in a way that would generally improve electric range, with speeds on the highway varying from 70-75mph and speed on the non-highway roads typically being 45-55mph. ![]() I was curious to see if I could get there and back without using any gasoline, but based on my available range, it would be close. When I left in the morning, I had 44 miles of electric range and when I mapped out my trip for the day, I had to drive 45.7 miles. This drive would take me from my residential area to a very busy commercial area – a trip that many of my neighbors make each day – so it is an excellent “average commute” drive route. My first test with the 2016 Chevrolet Volt was what I considered to be a pretty normal daily drive route, with an even 50/50 mix of highway (22.8 miles) and non-highway driving (22.9 miles). Those numbers are all great on paper, but how do these improvements translate into the real world? I set out on a week of driving the 2016 Chevy Volt to answer that question and in the end, I was surprised to find that in my driving conditions, the new Volt is even more efficient than the EPA estimates. The new Volt has improved all-electric range (53 miles), improved MPGe (106), improved gas-only fuel economy (42mpg) and an improved overall range on a full charge and a full tank of gas of 420 miles. The 2016 Volt has a new, larger battery system and a new, more efficient range extending gasoline engine, leading to improved capabilities across the board. The Chevy Volt combines all of the advantages of an electric vehicle with the endless range of a traditional economy car with a gasoline engine, and with the arrival of the 2nd generation Volt for the 2016 model year – the Volt is promised to be better in every way. ![]() The Volt offers more true EV driving than the many plug-in hybrids and a proper electric driving experience regardless of the speeds or driving situati8ons, but unlike the pure EVs sold in America – you never really need to worry about running out of battery power with the Volt. Since my first time testing the 1st gen Volt a few years back, I have been impressed with the driving dynamics of this small sedan along with the all-electric range combined with the endless range of the gasoline engine. At the same time, having tested and enjoyed a few different electric vehicles, I am aware of the shortcomings of a pure EV in terms of range limitations and that is why I like the Chevrolet Volt so much. While I prefer hardworking trucks and high performance cars, I can appreciate the design of some people to drive without the use of gasoline. ![]() Makeupc ompanies in las cruses nm7/2/2023 ![]() The good, the bad and the endangered: New Mexico’s thistles are more than just weeds.OneEnergy submitted their proposals to InClime, the contractor hired by the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission.
